So I'm a Cubase 7 user, and I haven't experimented with sampling or audio very much, but this new Bonobo track has me utterly confused. I'm not trying to make a living off of music by tomorrow by any means, but I feel like what i'm misunderstanding here is a basic production skill :P

Now I tried just replicating the vocal found in the original song for fun. I matched the bpm to 125 (the original vocals were at 91bpm), and pitched it up the correct amount (I think), but it sounds a bit too squeeky and thin, whereas Bonobo gets it to sound full, and natural, while pitching it up. So any idea as to what i'm doing wrong here? I'm not new to production so if you throw some terminology I should be able to get it, but I definitely have a gaping hole in my knowledge of audio editing.
