I finished my first album. It's somewhat short and probably doesn't constitute album status in length, but the amount of work put into definitely does. There are a total of 7 songs and I can't remember the exact run time of the album but it was around 34 minutes.
I have put my heart and soul into this project but have learned that I need to stop mixing it to oblivion. Not that the mixes get better or worse each time but I just feel like I'm beating a dead horse at this point. I'm 100% happy with this work. My next works will be better, but that doesn't mean this artwork isn't just that, art. Anyways, I'm not looking for a boost in popularity (I'm not even known) but I'm just genuinely excited to release something I am happy with and know that I took time to develop.
There were many lessons I learned but the main one was this... DO NOT release your music until it is finished. This is a two edged sword though, because I'm here to tell you it is never finished, ever. However, when you finally realize that by going in to edit things you aren't fixing anything, you're just tweaking for your subjective taste in the moment, that may be your sign telling you that things really are in a complete state - that call is yours, just be aware of some of the signs.
I've learned a lot from this sub, there is no doubt about it. However, I have learned 100000 times more by just sitting down with no objective and playing around. Sometimes mistakes are the best things to ever happen. Sometimes weird sounds are useful. Sometimes you surprise yourself, and those moments are the best. Learning is what keeps me going, but at the same time, even more so, the love of music is what keeps me going.
Keep it real.
