Hey guys, I apologize in advance since this isn't directly related to EDM production but I'm running out of places to turn and don't know where else to ask.
I've had an AKAI MPK49 for about 2 years now. I love it. It's overall a really sturdily built keyboard but I'm having an issue.
A few weeks ago I was looking for the USB cord for the MPK49, the one I thought was the cord seemed very loose when I tried plugging it in the USB port. So much so that I literally thought it was the wrong cord. So I kept looking and never found it. So I ordered a new one from Amazon thinking I must have lost the USB cord. The new cord comes in; I go to plug it in, only to find out I have the same exact issue again. It once again seemed like the wrong size. I first figured that I had ordered the wrong cord. Like that I had been sent the cord for the MPK25 instead of the MPK49 but upon doing a little bit of research, it seems like they both have the same USB port. So now I'm thinking the port itself is just broken.
So what are my options here? Considering I bought it used in the first place, I'm fairly sure I have no warranty on it. I bought a MIDI to USB cord yesterday, hooked it up to my laptop and realized that it wasn't going to turn without a power source (DUH!). The power supply seems to be fairly generic but I still can't figure out if that type of power cord has a specific name.
Furthermore, does anybody have any experience with hooking up an MPK or any other keyboard up to Ableton using MIDI to USB? Should the MIDI to USB cord be enough to power the keyboard up in the first place or is the power supply always necessary when going about it this way?
