I'm a 24 year old guy, played a little bit of Organ when I was a kid, but aside from the grade school recorder, that's my only musical experience.
I've somewhat recently become good friends with someone who sings in a local band, and through her I've watched a ton of live shows and met several of the musicians, and I think what they can do is incredible, and I want to be able to create the sort of beauty that they can.
I've mentioned this to my friend, and while I can't afford proper lessons, she said she can teach me all of the theory stuff and help me learn to play (she went to college for music), but I have no clue what instrument I want to learn. It seems like whatever I've most recently seen someone play is what I want to learn. I've seen two amazing violinists, and I absolutely love what they can do, but I've also heard that violin is very difficult to learn. I also love piano, but they're quite expensive and I don't have space. My dad has a guitar I could probably use, but so many people know guitar, including my cousin, I'd prefer something a bit more unique.
How exactly do you pick an instrument? Once finals are over I want to go to a music store with her to look at things, but what sort of things should I focus on when choosing an instrument? How did you pick your instrument?
