I already play bass (including a little bit of upright) so something that incorporates bass would be nice. I've tried guitar and violin, and didn't particularly enjoy them myself. I ideally need an instrument which is:
-
portable. Biggest issue I had with playing upright bass was portability. It weighed so much, it was hard to carry and even get into a car.
-
easy to learn without lessons. I am entirely self-taught on bass and at present don't have money for lessons. So I need an instrument which I can learn on my own.
-
versatile. I play a fair bit of various different genres and want to do more of this in future.
-
not overly expensive. Back when I was a hardcore upright player I looked at playing bass viola da gamba, but it was £1000+ even for an entry instrument. I know music isn't cheap but at the same time I don't want to get hammered for even basic instruments/costs.
I'm open to any suggestions.
