Hello, first time poster here. Also a very uneducated music student hoping to make my first steps forward into the world of music.
To keep my post short I'll try to express my concerns and ask for advice on what the best possible steps for me as a beginner are. For the record, I know (nearly) nothing when it comes to music theory in general. I know what notes there are (A, B, C, D, E, F, G) and I know the basics of what a scale is/ what the "major scale pattern" is with respect to whole-tones/half-tones (WWHWWWH). These are the things I've been learning from trying to find youtube videos or free articles about introductory music theory/how to play series, so please correct me if any of this is wrong, unimportant, or incomplete.. So, that being said, I am a complete beginner and my music vocabulary is very small. However, I am hoping to learn and I am willing to do the work required to do so, I just am having trouble knowing where exactly to begin.
Beyond that, I think it's important to mention that I want to eventually learn how to play a full-sized piano. That's the end goal at least. Although somewhat interested in classical music, I prefer more jazzy/bluesy music and want to end up learning how to play those type of music. Again, I'm just not sure how to get from point A to point B. Fairly recently, I was talking with a friend/coworker of mine and mention how I had a desire to learn how to play and that very week he gifted me a old Casiotone 701 that he didn't have any use for. I wanted to ask advice regarding this instrument, as I was curious if it's possible to learn the fundamentals on this thing while I save up enough to eventually buy an 88-key digital piano.
tl;dr - basically, my two questions are: 1. Where is the best place to being learning for a new student who knows practically nothing about music, including vocabulary terms. 2. Is it possible to begin learning piano using a Casiotone 701, or would that be unwise?
