Hey guys, I have a question for you all... or rather something I would like to debate. Is it always good practice to sidechain everything to your kick and snare? I've noticed this obviously works really well for house or heavy dubstep but what about other genres? Like for example I work on a lot of trap, hybrid trap, future bass, and more melodic dubstep, and for some reason sidechaining everything to my kick and snare for those genres doesn't sound quite right. It sounds "click-y" or like the drop doesn't flow quite as nicely. It almost feels like the kick and the snare are interrupting the flow of the drop. Could it be that I'm doing something wrong? Could I be over thinking it perhaps? Sometimes I will just sidechain the low end of everything to kick and the mids to the snare but perhaps that could be causing my drums to not be present enough. Does anybody have any pointers or general tips for sidechaining to kick and snare in genres like the ones I listed previously?
