Ever have a great section where you're just humming along to a part of your track that needs development, but any key you press throws that head melody off?
Here's what I do.
1) Bounce the section to an 8 second wav file.
2) Record your voice singing along to the loop in the DAW (or I use Audacity, because I like the ease)
3) Clean up the recording using simple noise reduction.
4) Delete the other loop and grab the raw voice.
5) Put it in your favourite tuning software. (Melodyne/Waves Tune or in my case, FL's Newtone)
6) Open Notepad and copy down the note values.
7) Program the same notes as MIDI in the original project.
Ta-da! Told you it was stupid. It's just another way to work that may be easier for some people.
