Just looking for any input here!
The problem: I track my vocals phrase-by-phrase. Maybe do a handful of takes until a given phrase is right, then put it down and move on. The issue is then listening to the entire verse/chorus as a whole. It sounds patch-work to me. In some takes, I was too close to the mic, so it picked up boomier chest resonances. In others, I'm closer to the mic but singing softer, and the dynamics come through in the vocals. When I sing louder, I move back and a bit of room acoustics might bleed in. Perhaps 1/2 of this is just me knowing this and an outside listener won't tell, but I have no idea how this is "properly" done. All takes are, of course, run through the same effects chain (EQ, comp, verb, limiter etc).
Thanks ♫♪
