So in theory, you can learn almost everything you need to know about music production by just learning your DAW in and out, understanding what different effects do, using reference tracks, and watching/reading tutorials.
With all this information, I feel like the technical part of it all gets left out. Examples of this would be Hz, Db. How important is this information to understand? I basically use my ears to tell whether my mix is good or not, but if I had a better understanding of the technical side would I achieve even better results?
Obviously it can't hurt to understand this information, but how important is it when it comes down to sounding as good as top producers?
Part of me wishes I went to music school to learn more technical stuff, but after 10 years of winging it I feel I've developed my own unique workflow that you can't really teach.
So are there any technical tips you learned on your own or in school that really made certain parts of music production easier? I cant help but feel like not completely understanding the technical stuff is holding me back somehow.
