Hey guys!
Newbie to the music world, I'm looking to get started. Problem is, I'm not much of the "just feel it and wing it" type. I need a clear progression path in front of me, and ways to build a practice session on my own.
I've dabbled with a guitar a bit last year and, on top of things not clicking that much, the grey zones were an emotional nightmare. Things like "Just play something! Chords are A, D and G, you can play the song now! Nevermind the strumming pattern, figuring out if you sound good and how to time yourself to the lyrics, magic will come into play at some point" killed me. So I'm looking for something that might be a better fit.
I had a djembe lesson last week and liked it a lot, but the first thing the teacher said was "the djembe is a community instrument, you can't play alone", which killed my hopes of improving on my own time. There don't seem to be that many drum circles in my vicinity either.
I seem to have more of a knack for percussions than strings, and I like the feel too, I'm looking for something 1. I can practice on my own and 2. that has a clear progression path (I'm a neurotic weakling, I'll own it). I just don't know enough about percussion instruments to figure out what would be a good fit. Any suggestions?
