I'm pretty good conceptually with synthesis (I know what all the pretty buttons and dials do) and I can even recreate some sounds pretty decently just by ear, but I do have trouble starting synthesis of an original sound. I was wondering if there was some sort of a set of guidelines for what basic waveform goes best with a certain type of sound. If I wanted to start a bass for example, is there a certain waveform I'd usually want to grab for first, or is it just completely genre specific? I just know that a lot of the waveforms are compared to the sound of orchestral instruments when described. All of those serve a certain role in a composition so I assume the waveforms would sort of follow suit
