So although I have been trying to avoid software that uses iLok I end up upgrading to Soundtoys 5 with the recent sale. This got me thinking a little about how best to safely manage the iLok licence process and not get stung.
One of the big downsides to iLok is that if you lose access to the PC you have allocated a licence to you have a big problem. The PC needs to be accessible to be able to deactivate a licence. This is a really poor system but it is what it is.
Does anyone know if there are there limits regarding deactivation and reactivation? For instance, can I just activate when I need it and then deactivate afterwards, and repeat this process a lot. This seems like a logical way to ensure a stolen laptop doesn't stuff you over. But I wonder if I will hit some sort of limit and lock myself out.
Would I be better off getting a dongle to put the licences on?
