From 2006 - 2012 I took piano lessons. I didn't practice much but I was able to comfortably play moderately advanced pieces. During the same time period I made music on Sony's Acid Music Studio 7 (I later upgraded to 9 and don't remember 9 being much better). I really liked Acid Music Studio - it was hooked into this website called Acid Planet that was supported by Sony. Lots of people, many much more talented than me, would upload their music there. I checked last week and my page on the site is still up (last updated 2012 lol). I had uploaded 27 songs - and lots of people had left reviews and tips for improvement on my songs. The site felt very underground, most people seemed to have regular non music jobs; they just made music for fun, but many were extremely talented at it. Are sites like this still around?
I made most of my music with loops from looperman.com. I see that looperman is still around and seems like a good resource. Right before I stopped making music I bought a MIDI keyboard, and the Vanguard VST. I still have everything but the MIDI keyboard. I'm buying a MIDI keyboard as soon as I can afford it. I'm thinking about trying out REAPER DAW so that I can work on my Mac laptop. Sony Acid only works on my Windows desktop and I'm mainly a laptop user. Recommendations on just sticking with Sony Acid? Reaper is about as high as I want to pay for a new DAW considering I already own a license to another working one.
Is it possible to create good music with only one tool such as the Vangaurd VST? I want to go all in and be able to make some good music. I have recently been listening to a lot of STRFKR and I think I could make a few songs similar to what they are making if I found a guitar player to work with and a vocalist. As a side note I also plan on trying my hand at vocals.
I don't have significant experience in vocals. I did recently listen to Half-Light by Rostam (used to be the producer for Vampire Weekend) and the effects he had on his voice seemed to give off a effect of hiding flaws from his vocal performance. If you listen to it and hear how he distorts the vocals I think you will see what I mean.
