Here's a downloadable version of my most recent track: https://soundcloud.com/slliimmeerr/slime-time A few weeks ago I saw you mention to send you tracks for review. If you got the time, let me know what you think!!! Thanks,
When I hear I track like this I go DAMN he’s got it. This drop is fire, and would murder any stage. You hear the mix and its close to flawless, very good in my home base studio. Why is this track not blown tf up like it should be? Lets break it down. AND PROPS TO SLLIIMMEERR FOR THIS BANGER. The track were gonna use to compare is Grabbitz - ballin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0RFyn2-tu8
MEMORY- In our track by our edmprod friend slliimmeerr, we have nothing to remember the track by, there is no EXTENSIVE melody, and no catch phrase or hook. In the Grabbittz, the “baby im ballin” get your attention no matter what, and even if you didn’t know who it was you can prob find it just by that. There should always be a DOMINANT melody, catch phrase/chop, or vocal that make you Remember the track.
STRUCTURE - There is no doubt these drops are FIRE in sslliimmeerr track, however the into not only lacks drama, it also is set up to drop AFTER a full 4 (on beat 5) and while that can be done, its usually awkward and is counterintuitive to expectations. I would intro 4 (using the same thing he has), add melody (chords that are in the drop) for 8, ALWAYS orchestral hit, impact, or reverb cymbal/kick into 8 bar riser with something like a vocal chop in there that is repetitive or melodic throughout the song. This builds the MEMORY, and makes the drop 10 x harder with the added drama.
The small break after the first drop (55sec) into the BIG drop is very good. However when I hear It, I know how good this guy is, why didn’t he go HARD on a drum fill with an impact or orchestra hit into that small re-up into the BIG drop? For this, any combo of drums works, kshmr toms, reggae drums, vandalism festival snare etc. Tune and create a heavy fill with sweeps in it to create hype into the fall.
1:28 we run into the same prob, we have a MASSIVE HEAVY drop and its nuts. But when it comes time to break it sounds abrupt and almost awkward in the transition. This is simple, its missing (rise – fill – hit – into fall). The addition of a vocal chop that is remember…. Consistent through the track, will make it 10 x more than what it is.
BREAK I can tell sslliimer isn’t the music musical producer by his avoidance of chords and melody (this is fine, there are BIG producers out there the same way). The break in this track doesn’t do the drops justice, it lacks MEMORY. I would go with an organic sound like big piano chords to carry melody in the break and lose the lfo sound and the bass underneath in entirety when you come out of the drop at 1:28. RETHINK THE ENTIRE SECTION, you want to fade out at 1:28 to almost nothing except falls. Set the tone with melody or consistent phrase hype chops for 8 bars, and then into an 8 bar SERIOUS riser cut at 7, (fill 7-8) drop ON TIME.
TECHNICAL This track really doesn’t really lack much when it comes to technical producer skills, its more like nit-picking very easy fixes for a producer of this caliber. Hes In the upper echelon of this genre, esp if its ALL HIM on the mix and master.
KICK – it’s preference, I don’t know if this is a pack kick, or a layered kick from KICK, but I would like to hear it bigger (more thump and click) This kick fits like a champ which is important bc its very hard to get the low end as clean as it is. Try a low end from 1 kick, and a fat click from a progressive house kick. No worries if your cool with the kick, its SOLID AF.
DROP STABS These fit SUPER GOOD and they are really catchy, the prob is YOU CANT HEAR THEM. Put these guys in their own buss. Im assuming they are mult layers, you want the lower layers WIDER and the higher ones slightly narrower. Use the s1 for the individual tracks. You want very short room or plate reverb, and here is how I do it. I will Bounce these guys to AUDIO dry, then process. This enables me to easily trim excess with freezing the track. EQ HPF 100hz LPF 16k, Compression w glue A:3 R:A RAT: 2 soft clip on, 80% WET. NEXT open OZONE STEREO and add slightly more width to the top bands of your ALREADY WIDE stabs. This will make them MEGA WIDE, with infinite control over the tails of everything with freezing. These are very important to making this drop everything it can be.
OVERALL This kid will make it, without a doubt, this track is fire. This track could be singed to big big label with just a few minor tweaks. Contrats to you SSLLIIMMEERR on AMAZING WORK!
