Hi all,
Long time /r/edmproduction lurker. I used to be a more active poster on here 4 years ago (I actually competed in Sample Pack Competition 19!!!)
Anyways, fast forward to present day and I'm finishing up my PhD in Music Technology. I owe a ton of my success to some of the early advice I got from this subreddit.
I recently reached a huge career milestone -- I'll be writing for a really well known new music ensemble, and I'll be speccing/rough drafting most of the piece in Ableton before putting it into Western notation.
I often see questions here relating to topics like "how to write a melody" or "something something music theory?". A lot of the time the answers to these questions are either super vague, or really dry and textbook (nobody enjoys learning the circle of fifths...). If you have questions about how a piece is composed, I'm live-blogging my entire process at https://simsi.es/blog/
If you have any input on what I'm doing, or things to try in the process I'm always open to suggestions, and value the kind of constructive criticism I get from this sub. Thanks for taking a look - and I hope this helps some folks out!
