Since I was a little kid I tinkered around on my parent's piano and at some point I got pretty good at listening to the music and being able to recreate it on the piano. I really enjoy playing even now and I feel that I have at least an intermediate control of the instrument, but it's hard to progress without knowing how to read music.
Ideally, I'm interested in learning primarily Schubert, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. Eventually, I'd also love to dabble in some jazz and improvisation as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Other various questions if you're feeling generous:
-Are piano tutors worth it if you can already play a significant amount by ear?
-How long does it take to gain enough mastery of reading to be able to play and read simultaneously? I can play some complicated pieces, but when I look at the sheet music and try to make heads or tails of it, it seems like madness.
-Is attempting to read music a fool's errand if you live a busy lifestyle such as that of a student employed full time?
