Recently I was watching San Holo's livestream in which he created the track RAW and I got inspired by the simplicity of the drop pattern. I realized that I didn't need to fill in all the gaps for the rhythmic pattern in the drop (be it percussion or synth or bass pattern) because previously I would barely have any breathing room between notes because I thought the more notes equates to higher intensity (hence higher energy) then I opened a new project in ableton and realized that I have fiddled between instruments in the 8 bar loop but do not know if it's effective enough since there's barely any notes for the first 3 bars in his drop. I'm not trying to completely copy or emulate his drop but how would you guys approach creating simple drops?? For reference go check out his track haha I know the complexity comes from filling in some occasional gaps with different instruments..how do you guys approach writing drops? It's the first thing I do when opening a project instead of going from intro to drop because I would lose the initial inspiration if I create from the very beginning
