I've always wanted to make music similar to what I've found in Porter Robinson, Madeon, and a fair amount of future bass. The issue is that I don't know where to even begin. I'll mess around in fl studio but the amount of options always intimidates me. I'm clueless on most electronic music terms. For instance, someone in the comments of a song said one of the instruments is "just a saw with a low pass filter". From what I can tell saws are like a grainy edm instrument, but I'm not completely sure. I don't even know what a low pass filter is. I don't know what kind of samples I should be looking for either. So far I've noticed I want strings and "firecracker" snares that just have a loud POP to them. I just don't know where to begin learning about electronic instruments. If I had instruments to work with from the start I'd probably be fine from there, but edm has all kinds of saws, synths, sines, squares, and other stuff that require you to like..."program" the instrument. I also don't know where each instrument is useful. Normal bands have bass guitars for bass, lead guitar for the lead, etc. I have no idea where saws and everything fit in the composition of a song. Any tips on where I should start?
