So I recently bought myself a pair of Yamaha HS8 monitors. Until now I had them sitting on top of the boxes they each came in, with the polystyrene they were packed in acting as some isolation. They sounded pretty clean and considering the DIY setup, the boom (and vibrations) coming from both the boxes and my wardrobe was pretty minute. My room isn't acoustically treated at all.
I was given some Adam Hall Spad Eco2 isolation pads for xmas and today decided to add them to my setup. To my surprise I noticed pretty much no difference in sound and also a slight increase in the amount of vibrations in the boxes I use as stands, as well as my wardrobe. Honestly, when opening up the pads I was kind of sceptical as to how much difference they would really make, since the polystyrene I use seemed to work so well and really doesn't carry much vibration. Despite this, I am extremely surprised that the pads seem to have made a negative change and am wondering if anyone has any advice for me? Perhaps would some proper speaker stands with the pads work better? Or should I just ditch the pads and stick with my DIY setup?
Even though these pads were cheap I'm really thinking about sending them back and spending the money on some acoustic treatment for my room instead. Again, if anyone has experience in the field of room acoustics I would greatly appreciate some insight especially as I have struggled to find detailed information on the subject on the internet. Thanks for any help! :)
TL;DR Got some isolation pads for xmas, but they have just resulted in more vibrations in hollow objects such as my cardboard box speaker stands and wardrobe. Any ideas on why this might be and how I could fix it / should I just sell them and spend the money on some acoustic treatment, of which I have none.
