Hey there,
whenever I write my songs, wether it's at the beginning or somewhere in the middle, I always have this feeling that sounds coming from my DAW sound different than the ones that were professionally made, mixed and mastered and I don't understand why.
After a few years of producing, I thing I know pretty well what I am doing, the importance of EQing, cutting frequencies, listening to resonances and overlapping frequencies and all that; I also think I can handle compression and basic mastering pretty well.
Let me give you an example: Alesso - In My Blood: https://open.spotify.com/track/1mCbwXkHJ3baG5VR9cY4TP
Just those first few seconds. Thats just one synth (maybe two, at most). Let's say he did some processing and it all runs through his master chain - it sounds so... I don't have a word for it. Smooth. And whatever I try, I can't get my sounds, not even one singular sound, to sound that smooth to my ears - I hope that explains it quite well.
Can somebody maybe shed some light on what the pros are doing differently? Why this does not sound empty?
