So I'm doing this track with a sub bass low passed at 100hz and then some super saw chords to fill in the midrange. I've got this really cool kick that I actually high passed at 50hz. Makes it really cut through the mix.
So problem is I just listened to my track in my girlfriend's car and couldn't hear the bass. The kick also sounded way out of place without the sub bass to back it up. Because of this, most of the harmonic function of the super saw chords wasn't there anymore. Lots of 4th and 2nds.
I'm thinking mid range bass could solve this. If I get a nasty sounding saw playing bass notes and have it sit around 100hz-1-2k, it might add some edge to the super saws and compensate for cars not having my headphone's quality.
Question though, what's the normal practice here? I don't want to add mud, which I figure I'll have to fix with some surgical EQ. I also don't want to overpower the harmonies in the super saws.
What is some good advice for adding some midrange bass to a track? Any personal experience with it or anything you've learned would be awesome!
Note: I'm gonna watch YouTube videos and research and stuff, I just like a lot of the experienced advice that this community guves.
