Hello EDMprod this may be a rant but I appreciate you if you for taking your time to read and help,
Long time lurker and I feel like i've tried just about every trick on this sub (and every other music production sub) but hopefully someone can enlighten me or bring up some things to discuss/try out.
Everything I make sounds thin weak and fragile (even other people's minimalistic songs with very few elements sound more full and present than any of my tracks) I honestly don't know if its a sound design/selection problem, a mixing problem or a mastering problem (probably all) but i get in my car excited af to hear whatever I came up with which sounds relatively good on my monitors/lab top speakers/phone speakers then I get in the car and it sounds incredibly thin weak (now that im writing this it could be a low end problem)
Lately i've been experimenting a lot with trying to get a more full sound by trying to fill up the frequency spectrum more through layering and white noise, panning reverbs and delays, M/S Eq and processing , Chorus, among other things. (Maybe im just using all of these way too much? Any tips regarding these things are greatly appreciated also)
Also on a side note, I've noticed that when I look at some peoples stems literally every track looks like its brick walled. 1. Do they do this with compression/limiting? 2. Is doing this along with good arrangement how one makes a "full" track? 3. Is this a mixing style or a sound design style?
I've never released anything but message me and I can send you something if you think you could help
Tl;DR: How do you go about making a thick full sounding song? (even songs with minimal elements sound full thick and lush) Whats the deal with brick walling tracks?
Thank you for all your help
