Hi kids. I've been making music irregularly for about 12 years now in Reason and have recently felt called to put a lot more time and energy into it. I have "learned" a lot from tinkering and trial and error, but with no background in music or studio patching I usually don't know what I am doing technically even though I can get a sound I like.
I've decided to put energy into actually learning the tools - so, like, I know wtf I am doing, can save time, have broader resources, etc. I've been watching a bunch of YouTube videos to learn about basics like what synth is and things more specific to Reason.
What I found myself wondering today as I got an email announcement from Properllerhead about R10, featuring 2 new synthesizers, is why a DAW would need more than one. If it's simply a tool that alters the midi signal into a particular sound or tweaked sound, why would I need more than one tool to do that? I can guess with 1980s analog synths you can only cram so many effects into the storage space on the keyboard, but with a DAW synth there should be no limit there...
Thanks in advance for your help and your patience with my noviceness.
TLDR; why would we need more than one synth for a DAW?
