This is gonna be a long rant about just something that I've been thinking about for a while so stay with me.
So If you've watched/read any kind of music production guide/tutorial, you've probably heard of someone saying "less is more" or "simpler the better". And I 100% agree with what they are trying to get across. If it doesn't need to be there, get rid of it. simple. But I've seen so many producers, especially someone relatively new or people who have no idea what they're talking about saying things like "Oh, it's way to layered. It's probably gonna sound like shit", "It looks complicated as hell. So it's bad". NO. Just NO. If you know what you're doing and have 100% control over every element of your project, put whatever you want in there. You can only hear it for a .25 sec but it sounds good? Put it in. People won't be able to tell it's there but you like it? Put it in. I actually feel bad for producers/artist who just follow something someone said in a 'How to make your drop huge' tutorial on Youtube like it's a Bible or something. One of the most appealing thing about Music Production to me is that you can do basically anything with your idea. If you have an idea, there's no limit as to how you articulate it. And production is just a tool for that. Yes, if you have a less things to work with, it's gonna be easier and faster. But it doesn't mean that if you have a lot of things to handle, it's bad. Especially when you are capable to handle it. Learn music. Study your favorite song. Experiment and challenge. It's no magic no secret. Compress, EQ, control the level. Nothing is overly layered if you know why it's there and the purpose it serves in the song.
Thanks for sticking with me!
