When mixing a track I have a lot of small ways of checking that the mix is sounding good besides my with my ears. Here is my helptools.
-
Flip the track between mono and stereo and see that everything still sounds good when it is in mono.
-
Use magic AB plugin that lets me quickly reference others tracks to mine.
-
Use two different spectrum analyzers on the master to help me judge my mix and help me see were problems could be.
-
Filtering on the master to see how different sections sound isolated, for example I could put a lowpass filter on the master just to hear how the lowend sounds or hipass filter and check the highs. I do also use a bandpass filter to help me to check certain frequencies areas to see if nothing is popping out oddly. I of course turn everything of when the track will be bounced, this is just for analyzing if I need.
-
Analyze m/s levels, I check and see how the entire track looks when it comes to width. Also if there are problem areas that needs to be fixed. Example it could be too wide. I do also sometimes only listen to the sides of the track only.
-
Put reverb on the master and get a feel for how the track would sound in a room/club. You can check if everything is still audible and how the track somehow is affected.
-
have ozones spectrum match eq from other pro tracks that I can reference my spectrum against others while I produce. Note that this is only help, use your ears!
What are your crazy helptools?
