Greetings, I've been looking into an affordable midi controller I can use for both simple piano and drum use. I'm not super picky on the piano end as I'm mainly a guitarist/drummer but the less desk space it takes up would be great so I decided on 49 vs more keys. That being said I do need it to be reliable. As far as for the drums, I'd like some pads that can each be edited (ie have two pads be a kick drum, or move snare to different pads) as well as responsive with no double notes. Apparently this can be hard to find on cheaper models. I understand I can get both in one but if I need to get two separate controllers that'd be fine. Oh I should mention I mainly use Logic Pro X, Garageband, and some Ableton.
I've been looking into the Novation Launchkey 49 and maybe get a separate pad set if I didn't like the pads. I read that you cannot move midi sounds to different pads and it's more set which seems odd. The pads physically also look smaller than most. Any experience or ideas on this? From my research, the Launchkey is the most well rounded midi keyboard under $200. The other option was the Akai MPK249. This seems to have great pads and do everything I need with the only downside being $300-$400. This would also be limit as far as budget. It seems the other route I could spend around $250 or less and have something that would work just as well. Both have different packaged instrument software as well but it sounds like most people find their own particular set separately. Although anything packaged with electronic drum instruments would be nice. So any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you
