I keep my mix -5 - -6 db when mixing and making the track. For mastering chain EQ, Ozone Exciter, Ozone Imager, Saturater (Med Curve) Compressor, Ozone Maximizer.
When I try to compress even just a few db of gain my track will get noticeable pumping when the 808 hit. Causing the lead and everything else to pump the volume, use a medium attack and release time and 1-2.5 ratio so nothing crazy with the threshold only reaching the tops. I have tried sidechaining the compressor to an audio track with a EQ high cutting 250-300 HZ. but don't know if I should put the input gain to full or what, if I do it causes it to go full red in the compressor.
What I am doing now is just putting very little compression on master but using everything else to get my volume commercial level of -5.0 to -8.0 LUFS. When people say compress the shit out of it, how do they do that without making the master pump? So annoying, I'm on Ableton. Thanks for the help!
