Im looking for the best way to learn "hands on" music theory, something that will be easily translatable to a piano roll in a DAW. Im not quite looking to learn how to play piano, and not quite looking to learn in depth music theory. Just kinda something in between. Any suggestions?

I already have a working, basic understanding of music theory. Right now Im trying to grasp modes, which are kinda confusing to me (they seem like scales to me?).

Im just looking for material that will sorta explain and teach me music theory, but in a way that is applicable to DAW use, and a not too technical or in depth approach.
