I have been making music for about 8 years now. I haven't kicked it into high gear until about 2 years ago and I would say most of my knowledge came from the past 2 years. I started with zero knowledge of music. When I say zero I mean I didn't even know what a chord was or what inputs/outputs were.
I've had support from one international DJ and one decent release but that's about it. I've come to a point where I'm just not satisfied with anything I produce anymore (even drum loops). I'll watch videos of some more well known producers and they can make QUALITY good sounding drum loops / melodies within an hour with barely any EQ on them. I know this stuff takes time but how do I get past the barrier of not being satisfied? I truly feel like I'm getting nowhere with this and it feels like time is flying by as I get older. As I've gotten older and more experienced I'm LESS satisfied with what I produce. I listen to my older release (within the first year of making music) and wonder how I was ever satisfied with those. At the same time, I'm proud I was able to at least finish them. My goal right now is to get a point where I can sit down and make quality tracks consistently.
I've heard of some established producers taking 10+ years before they actually have a release on a known label and even then it could take many more years until they are consistently releasing good tracks.
