I am a beginner (piano) player with aspirations to play by ear. I try to transcribe melodies and songs as often as I can, but since I am new at transcribing (and playing music in general) it's a pretty long and painful process.
While developing a good ear is probably my highest priority, I don't want to stop progressing in my actual playing and learning new tunes.
Is there a good rule of thumb about when to look up the sheet music/tabs/chords to see if I am right/if I am stuck?
