Hey Reddit, I'm a guitarist, pianist, and music educator that has been figuring out for over a decade the most efficient way for my students to improve and become stronger musicians. Over the past few years I've been developing a website that I feel does just that. The site is learnchordal.com, and is essentially a big collection of charts and resources to learn how to think in harmonic context via numbers. I actually started back in the day with lyrics sheets in Google Drive and Roman Numerals; it wasn't pretty. I like the ease of reading and performability of Nashville Numbers and my charts take out any guesswork of some number charts I've read.
My goal with the site is to empower musicians to not only think of music in context, but to give them a way to develop their ear and practice hearing these particular sounds. I'm trying to meet in the middle of ease of reading, common practice theory, and accuracy. I am looking to turn this kind of thing into part of my music career but the charts will always be free.
Along with charts, there are helpful articles that deal with how to capo the guitar, non-diatonic chords, etc. Eventually I'll have worksheets of charts available so students can practice actually figuring out the harmonies and key of a song by ear (with certain parameters in place).
I just launched the site this month so there are a few kinks, but it's mostly working. I feel that thinking in musical context (at least harmonically) at all times is the most important thing I've learned, and I love seeing my students improve with it. Thanks for your time!
