So, I've wanted to learn the cello for quite a long time, and now, at almost 40, think I can fit it into my schedule. However, I'm looking for advice on where to start...
Firstly, I live in a small apartment, and storage for an instrument is minimal, so I'm heavily considering an electric cello. This also benefits the neighbours who live on the other side of the paper-thin wall, as I could then plug headphones in and not have torture them with the sound of a newbie playing scales...
Secondly, I'm not sure if I'm prepared to invest $1200+ on a student-level electric cello. I've seen much cheaper options on eBay, etc., and while I certainly expect the quality of the pickups and such to be SUBSTANTIALLY lower, is the decrease in quality so important with respect to learning the mechanics of the instrument? Would it be worthwhile to buy a cheap one then upgrade the pickups, or just splurge and get a reasonable-quality student cello?
Thanks for your input!
