Hey guys,
I'm going to be setting up a studio in the near future, with complete acoustic absorption and diffusers.
Right now, I use a pair of Presonus Eris 5's, in an untreated room, which just aren't cutting it. I mix almost entirely on good studio headphones while only checking my monitors periodically.
I have some budget set aside and I think a solid pair of monitors is a must.
Budget is about $3,000 for a pair.
I'm wondering if the jump from something like HS8's to a high end monitor like the Genelec's 8050's makes a worthwhile difference in regards to mixing/mastering in a fully treated room.
Monitors would be for nearfield reference monitoring.
Here are monitors I've considered:
- HS8's - $700
- Adam A8X's - $2,000
- Focal Solo6 - $2,500
- Genelec 8050 - $3,600
- Dynaudio LYD-48 - $2,500
- Adam A7X's - $1,600
My questions:
-
How minute are the diminished returns after monitors in the HS8's price range?
-
Are high end monitors a worthwhile investment for better clarity when mixing and mastering?
-
Are there any recommendations I haven't mentioned?
Thanks all.
