Hi all,
So I made sound treatment with framed Roxul safe n' sound from home depot, and have a few questions about positioning them. My room is square (fuck me), and the only bass is directly behind me by 2'. I'm asking for advice on how to best reposition these frames, or what I can possibly do to get the bass into my mixing position. I'm sitting in a damn node and I swear the bass is killing itself, and to hear any bass freq's I have to go back a few feet.
1) When placing a broadband absorber behind the monitor, is it directly behind the monitor, or is it with respect to the angle which is it turned at. See picture #1 in the album for clarification. Is it the red arrow or the blue arrow?
2) Because directly behind my monitors is a window, I can't drill into it. What is the best material to lift them ~8 inches up off the floor? I've been searching for furniture stilts and objects of that nature but can't find anything decent. I'm being lazy and don't want to actually build wooden frames to stand them on. Can I just use cardboard boxes or something? Any ideas?
3) I have (4) thicker bass traps and am going to place them in the corners. How far up the wall should they be? I ask this because I heard various things. The most important spots are the tri-corners, which would be the corners on the floor. But on the contrary, I have also heard that if you don't have top to bottom sound treatment, that you should be putting them more off the ground to line up with the studio monitors. I have two of them lifted on random shit which lines up perfectly with my monitors, but the other two are chilling on the floor still. I wonder if this is why the bass is 2' behind my mixing position..
I've put a lot of work into this and read tons of articles on positioning but have yet to speak about my current setup to a real person who has experience on this.. so forgive me, and thank you so much in advance with your reply!
