Hi,
I am a web developer and an amateur musician. I was wondering if the community would be interested in a platform which could house piano tabs (like ultimate-guitar) and also provide a synthesia like piano roll instructional tool to assist in piano learning.
My research
In terms of the most popular methods to learn piano songs, I found that people mostly relied on hand-crafted instructional videos of actual players or proprietary videos of the tool called synthesia. I feel that there is definitely a lack of quality content in piano education especially when compared to guitar, for example.
What I propose
I have noticed quite a large library of free midi content out there. I want to create a tool which given a midi file could generate an instructional piano roll style sequence. Also, midi files thus uploaded would become a part of the database, so people would be able to just come on the platform and search for their favourite songs if there is enough user engagement. All of this would be free.
It is a pet project that I am thinking of pursuing right now. I would only really like to work on it if people really need it. Also, let me know if such a platform already exists, because I wouldn't want to reinvent the wheel.
Thanks :)
