Hi! A little background about me: I’m a sophomore in high school. I’ve played bass clarinet for 3 years and before that I played regular clarinet for 2 years. I’ve also been singing for 7 years and doing musical theatre for 9 years. I’m currently taking the first class in a two year set of music theory classes that my school offers. I want to go into music when I reach college and I really want to learn how to compose music, but I’m not sure how to get started. I don’t know how much music theory I need to know in order to get started either. Currently in class we’ve been working on learning about chord inversions, simple progressions, and how to harmonize simple pieces of music (like a simple nursery rhyme). I don’t even know where to begin with concepts for music. All I know is that I have the itch to write, but I don’t have a starting point. Any tips?
