I'm learning the banjo, still very new, but I like to write my own little compositions and just wanted to make sure I'm doing some things correctly.
If I understand, a chord progression in a particular Key would be made of chords from notes that fall into the scale of that key.
Then someone soloing in that key, or if you wanted to write a "riff" you would follow notes along the scale defined by that key.. So my question is: can you "solo" along the scale on top of other instruments playing the chord progression and it will still all sound okay? I mean to a real trained musician this would be kosher?
and lastly, if I'm holding down chord in that chord progression and wanted to add some "hammer on/pull offs" is it okay if the note I'm hammering on to or pulling off to isn't a note that belongs to that chord, as long as it belongs to that scale?
