How can I make my tracks louder without having them clip or squeezing all the dynamics out of them.
Here’s a bit of detail: Recently I’ve started mixing with headroom (I know, probably a good idea) since I was getting feedback that my tracks were too compressed, which is true: I had a +6db compressor on my track’s master as well as a Maximus (multiband compressor) doing some heavy work and my volume meter was almost always in the red. I’ve noticed a big improvement to the mix of my tracks since starting to mix with headroom, and I’m not even using anymore than a couple dbs max for headroom, but my tracks sound a lot quieter than they did before when I put them on soundcloud. So how can I my tracks louder without making them clip or squeezing all the dynamic range out of them? I’m aware this is mainly what audio engineers do (afaik) but I don’t have the money to send my track off to one, if someone could give me a quick rundown some basics things that I can do within FL then that would be really helpful! Thanks in advance.
