Lately I've been trying to make some hip-hop blends for fun. I'll usually have 3 tracks, two are instrumentals and one for vocals, then I'll just beat-match and weave different stems in and out for a continuous mix.
Anyway, the arrangements sound good but I can't get the mixing stage to sound clear. Despite any EQ, filtering, and compressing I try it always sounds like things are fighting for room in the mix and it's only 3 tracks.
How do guys like this get everything in their songs to pop out and not get buried?
I want to have a lush mix where you can distinctly pick out each sound.
