warning: this post has extremely noob questions.
I’m planning to buy Mother 32 in near future. I happen to have both Maschine MK3 and Ableton Push. But to having all three would be overkill for me. So I’m planning to sell one of those. But I have concerns which one to keep.
I have to say that as a mac user and a previous garageband user I immediately understood Logic's workflow. And weirdly, same goes for the Maschine. But my gut still says that I should stick with Ableton no matter what but I love how easy to create stuff on Maschine. Even though Maschine is a buggy piece of software, I find my way around much easier. So basically I'm not going to compare logic because I never considered to work with it properly.
So I'm open for any kind of suggestions (even maybe completely different path instead of getting a mother 32)
I'll try to make your life easy creating a table (I hope)
Maschine
Pros |
Cons |
Pads are amazing. |
Maschine software sucks and feels like ejay |
Chords settings are amazing |
Integration with other daws suck |
Built in sounds are amazing. Any expansion is definitely safe to buy. |
16 pads are pretty is not enough if I ‘d like to play melodies. |
It’s a midi controller (in a way) some impressive native logic implementations on the way. |
Feels like made for ppl who doesn’t want to learn music theory |
It has a built in audio interface. |
Bugs(?) There have been times that I couldn’t get the same effects if I stopped the playback. So it feels like the sound is ‘generated’ not played. |
I could easily come up with some basic shit without even reading the manual. Which helps to understand the manual better when reading. Not sure if this is a pro but still. |
VST?? lol I’m not going to deal with all those channel forwarding stuff just to use the maschine as a drum rack while I can do much more on ableton. |
I don't need to check on screen every single time. |
For some reason, the software itself feels like a toy. |
User experience is far more better than ableton. |
Not much content. |
Ableton
**Pros** |
Cons |
Proper DAW. Even as a beginner I can see the difference. |
Definitely not user friendly. |
Must be good because it’s industry standard. (Yeah, I'm pretty clueless) |
Overwhelming interface. It feels like using windows 95. |
Love their branding |
Even for a basic arpeggiators or chord I have to add a separate effect for that. I mean it’s just a one button on maschine. |
Build in instruments focused mostly electronic music |
Hard to learn. I’ve spent much more time on ableton and push, but I could able to come up more on maschine |
Customisability. I love how every single thing is adjustable. |
Did I mention the user interface is horrible? |
Looks like controlling a space shuttle remotely. |
Feels like controlling a space shuttle remotely. |
Looking forward for your suggestions/replies!
