Rest in peace Tim Bergling, my prayers are with his family during this unbelievably difficult time. Tim truly loved music and in my opinion was one of the best ever. Over the past few days I have been doing nothing but listening to Avicii and watching Avicii interviews, concerts, the documentary, pretty much anything and everything.
With that being said, I thought it would be cool if we analyzed his production and paid respect to him. Since Tim loved music so much, I really think that he would appreciate our community discussing his techniques, workflows, arrangement, lyrics, and more. Also, these are just my initial thoughts to get the ball rolling, I am a beginner to music production and would love for you all to contribute to this analyzation.
First and foremost, Tim's melodies. They were incredibly catchy, easy to remember, they had high energy and they were fun. I think he spent the most time creating melodies. In one of the interviews I watched, he talked about when he starts a song it is either with the melody or something he wants to write about.
The lyrics. His lyrics were timeless, and relatable.
The software. Tim's DAW was FL Studio and he was known for using Sylenth and Nexus when he started out. Ofcourse after he became the superstar he had access to anyone and any instrument he wanted to work with. Someone once referred to him as a master of picking out presets. I believe this to be true as well, he really focused on what mattered most in the songs: the melody, the chords, etc. In his future music episode he mentions that he uses drum loops.
These are my initial thoughts, I will update this as I go and I hope to hear thoughts from all of you.
The music community lost an amazing person way too early, we will truly miss you Tim.
