I'm fairly comfortable with the basics of music theory when it comes to production - things like scales, intervals, chord progressions, etc.
While I've developed a basic understanding of these elements, I'm wondering if there's any merit in diving deeper. The reason why I ask is because on the one hand, I feel like learning 'just enough' music theory is good for EDM; but on the other hand, I feel like having a thorough and comprehensive understanding of music theory will give me a tremendous edge.
I'm considering buying Steven Laitz's "The Complete Musician", which seems like a pretty comprehensive music theory book. It's pretty dense (over 900 pages), but my gut tells me it will be time well spent reading it.
Your thoughts?
