although its not producer royalties per se, i am guessing producers would get a similar cut as the sole songwriter for a pop track. i was pretty surprised to find out just how (relatively) low the income is, given the massive success and ubiquitousness of the hit song :

writing a song as good and big as this is already an anomoly, and most career songwriters/producers would work their entire careers for a moment like that.
so lets say you work 20 years fulltime behind the scenes, and you make it - you write one big hit that goes 4x platinum. here the royalty payout would be ~ half a mil. half a mil / 20 would be 25k a year on average which is borderline poverty level depending on where you live
for those who wish to not become worldfamous djs and do want to be behind the scenes producers, what sort of goals do you have?
i have long been interested in pop music production but i am realizing that you really have to aspire to be the top .0001% or do something else - is there really any other in between option?
