Sooo…
I’ve wanted to play cello for years, but there is no way I can afford lessons on top of rental costs for an instrument. Adult lessons are just crazy expensive! Renting is the only sensible thing to me, as a means to get to know the instrument and my abilities on it.
The instrument I could already play (somewhat decently, before I stopped) is the piano. But to be able to play on one I’d have to get one, and any acoustic piano is out of my price range, so the only option seems to be digital (which I don’t trust to sound as good as a decent acoustic). But even for that I’d have to get some lessons to get back up to scratch. Also, the fact that I felt I couldn’t improve any more on the piano (hit a massive roadblock) despite trying desperately back before I stopped playing (not by choice) makes me wary of taking up piano rather than cello now.
Any ideas as to how I can learn the cello reasonably (learning speed doesn’t matter) without taking lessons?
