I usually make trappy chillhop, but lately a lot of my works-in-progress have had a very different vibe (a more dark, tribal dance sound). All of the tracks work great together during live sets and people appreciate how often I switch up the sound, but it's been frustrating to try and release such a variation of styles. It feels like promotion/releasing would be easier if I split up my output into different projects based on style. Then again, it might be frustrating to get a new project off the ground when I've already built up a following.
Anyone have experience with this? When is it a good idea to start a side project rather than keep releasing under one name?
