What are your thoughts on learning the guitar vs the drums?
This year I want to seriously begin learning an instrument. I've always wanted to learn the piano, but there's no point in the near future where it'd be possible for me to own one. I tried the keyboard for a bit, but it just didn't have the impact that I enjoy from a real piano.
So, the other instruments I've been debating between are the drums and guitar. I like the sound of both instruments, but can only devote time to learn one. The guitar is cheaper, quieter, more portable, and can really be enjoyed by itself or playing with others. However, the drums look more fun & energetic, and offer more possibility for jamming with others. Of course the cons are opposite the guitar; it's loud, expensive, and requires accompaniment of other instruments for full enjoyment (in my opinion).
I've tried both. I actually own an acoustic guitar and can play 5-6 chords and a couple strumming patterns. My old roommate used to own a drum set and I pounded away on that occasionally. Both are really enjoyable.
I know in the end i should make the choice for me, not what internet strangers think I should do. But I'd like to know if anyone else has some insight, or can maybe share some things that I haven't considered.
