Posting here because I haven't gotten an answer yet in /r/AudioEngineering
Due to my Apollo being Solo Core, the DSP fills up after running like 4 UAD plugins at once.
I want to upgrade to a QUAD or OCTO Core, and really need some help understanding the options; because honestly... they confuse the shit out of me lol.
These are the specifics regarding my confusion:
1) What is the difference between an Audio Interface and an Accelerator is on Universal Audios site?
I understand that all of the Audio Interfaces are just different Apollos, but do you need one of them to be able to use an Accelerator? Or can you use an Accelerator on its own to run UAD plugs?
2) Completely lost on what the "UAD-2 PCie DSP Accelerator Card" is and where the hell the card goes.
Would this go straight into the computer? Not sure if this matters, but I own a Mid-2014, Retina, 15-inch MacBook Pro with a 1TB internal SSD, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, & 16 GB Ram. Would the "UAD-2 PCie DSP Accelerator Card" replace something already in my MacBook Pro or would it just be added inside? Or does the Accelerator Card actually go into my current Apollo?
I know that's an EXTREMELY dumb question but I honestly really have no idea. If by chance this is installed in the computer and is able to run UAD plugins on its own... I will buy it literally right away and start dancing because that sounds like a dream.
3) What is the difference between the "UAD-2 SATELLITE**" and any of the "APOLLO INTERFACES"?
Because again, I have absolutely no idea and at this point just feel like a dumbass.
If anyone out there is less dumb than me, I would love some of your knowledge as I am running pretty low right now. I have never felt so stupid typing up anything on Reddit before; and at this point, even a vague answer to half a question would help me.
Thank you in advance!!
