Let's cover the first part of this:
Creep by deadmau5 seems very... Odd in the drumming. Along with Rlyh's Lament and others in While 1<2. I don't feel the 4/4 happening. Is the drumming done with another time signature? I feel like the 2 tracks aren't really dancing ones as much as they are more... contemplative? I also know that there are lots of delays/stutters too, don't worry. I've made a track (https://clyp.it/nkqkrwyr) and used 4/4 but decided to have more fun with the drumming, and placed kicks and snares based on how I want MY body to move. Moving at 4/4 seems really boring to me... Not so much how the standard is supposed to sound. What am I mucking up here as opposed to Creep/Lament?
Now for DNB drumming variations: I have lots of house-based and live-recorded percussion/cymbals/hats (so pretty much things that don't include the core of kicks/snares).... Is it a thing to chop those up to use with my drum loops? I feel like I can REPRINT the perc+kicks+snares to mess around with in the second drop. No? Am I crazy?
Goddammit I need to find my own niche of tunes. Sorry if this was a wall of text by someone with a sporadic mind. This is just coming all together to me right now.
