A question posted on Laidback Luke forums. Figured I’d share my two cents here as well.
MMultiAnayler. Reference tracks, reference tracks, reference tracks. And the the most important thing of all: Reference tracks.
Things less important but still crucial:
-Solicit feedback like a masochist. Post your track, and the track(s) you want your production to sound like. People with much better ears will tell you what steps are missing in between.
-High quality samples trump all. It’s a bitch starting out developing an ear for which samples sound good and which ones sound bad. To expedite this process…..
Reference tracks.
